There are two sides to look at this game from. One exceptionally good, another terrible.

beatmania is a "DJ Simulation game", that requires you to hit notes on time with the music to actually make that music. Just another music rhythm game really, but that's good, even though it's not actually DJ simulating.

For people who've played beatmania a lot by importing games (other beatmania games are only in Japan for PS2 and such) or play it a hell f a lot at an arcade to the point of at least 3+*s (difficulty level 3/10), then this game probably isn't the best for you. THE BAD

1)The songlist is incredibly small, which lowers the chance of having lot of songs you like. 2)beatmania mode tends to be default, even though a lot of people would rather play IIDX (7keys; beatmania is 5keys).

3) No Extra Stage or OMES (One More Extra Stage)

4) Changed difficulty level names. Not much of a big deal, but...

THE GOOD

1) Beginner difficulty can be useful if normal is too hard.

2) V is back.

If you are a person who has never played beatmania before, and are into the music/rhythm...genre...this can be a very interesting game for you.

THE GOOD

1)beatmania mode offers good practice before you try to take on IIDX.

2)Some fairly good songs.

3)Game mode offers incentive to play every song so you don't pick out the "good' songs by just the title.

4)BEGINNER DIFFICULTY. Most of the import versions of beatmania, if any, don't have this. Which means this is one of the best beatmania titles to get for beginners.

5)Cheap controller. Better than getting a crappier controller for more from Japan.

THE BAD

1)Nothing at first, except even with Beginner difficulty, the learning curve is still very high.

2)Lack of song choice gets very noticeable after you can do every song or so on beginner. Which means...

3)Difficulty curve just keeps steepening as there are less varieties of songs to build you up.

So whether you are a new player or old, some things are similar.

1)Bad amount of songs.

Total scoring: 5.4/10; it can be a very good game for a while, but then it sinks in, and sucks. Badly. Rent it, if not buy it. In fact, buy it for the controller. The game is practically free when you look at it like that.
