Bejeweled offers simple puzzle gameplay that draws you in, but it's no Tetris.

User Rating: 6.5 | Bejeweled PC
Bejeweled is a puzzle game where you have to recognize patterns by clicking a row of three gems of the same color. The grid contains an 8x8 grid of gems. The gems disappear when you click three in a row, net you points, and new gems appear by falling in from the top of the panel. Any rows that line up as three or more of the same color as a result of your initial move compound your score.

In the untimed mode the game ends when there are no new rows of gems.

The timed game ends when the time bar at the bottom of the screen empties. The time bar increases when you score and decreases while your looking for rows of gems. When you max out the timer the game brings you to a new level where the timer runs out quicker.

Graphics: The game looks like any standard windows game, so expect it to look like Pinball or Minesweeper. The graphics are appropriate for the game, if a little boring.

Sound: Boring. Repetitive. The mindless techno sounds quickly become annoying. The voice of the technolord that states, "Excellent" when you score big points is superfluous. You know you done good already. The explosion when you move on the the next round is worse than the chaingun effect in Doom.

Gameplay: It's a fast-paced puzzle game you can pick up and point down with equal ease. It does what it does well.

Bejeweled is fun, but it does not have the staying power of Tetris, particularly without a multiplayer. Play it online at Popcap for free, but don't spend the dough.
