Its A Wonderful Game If You Like Berserk
User Rating: 9.1 | Berserk: Millennium Falcon Hen Seima Senki no Shou PS2
Basically, I bought this game because I love the franchise and it made me gitty to know there was a game for it, even if it was a hack and slash. Primarily it is a good franchise conversion (amazingly) however, towards the end of the game the repetitive battles and dungeon crawling gets nerve racking. One of the best redeeming qualities of this game is the combat, much like what made the dreamcast game great. Its a basic hack and slash but its freakin berserk! It combines mainly the combat of the Lord of The Rings games (Two Towers+ Return of The King, not fellowship nor The Hobbit) with a devil may cry esque combat multiplier. You upgrade your weapons and abilities (a la god of war, devil may cry, lotr etc...) to make you more strong. Combat centers around swinging Gutts' humongo sword, which is quite with enemy splatter effect, it becomes very satisfying. Along with sword swinging you get several sub weapons (crossbow, cannon, grenades etc...) that you can use to get a little bit of a competitive edge. The highlight of the game is easily the story, if you dont know whats going on its not surprising because its a Japanese import and unless you know the language you ain't gettin it. Unless of course you've read the manga, which is being translated by Jet Comics, and by a none profit organization (the band of the hawk www.thehawks.org) and is available via bittorrent. Something that was done very impressively was the boss battling, featuring characters primarily from the manga, which they use effectively. The long and short of the boss battles is simply live action Shenmue coordinated button pressing which is holy fun. Bottom line, the game is basically for either berserk lovers or for those looking for a great hack and slash with intuitive boss battles. It gives the player a great feel for the character they see in the Anime or Manga and is a quite satisfying game.
