Unless you are a big fan, there is one answer to say, NO.
- Fair amount of familiar characters
- Decent visuals
- Can make you own Beyblade
Negative
- Announcer's voice is annoying and repetitive
- Too few modes
- Create-a-player is stupid and very limited
- Gameplay is simple and boring
Beyblade fans will find little in this game. The game offers little in almost everything; starting with only 2 or 3 modes, gameplay won't appeal too much and an irritating create a player option.
Create a player is one of the worst thing in the game. You choose from male or female, with two ugly characters and give them a name and choose a bit chip and that's that. There is the tournament mode where you can get points to be able to buy new parts for your Beyblade. Compete in tournament with your favorite character from the series and thankfully there are those recognizable.
Gameplay consists of controlling the Beyblade and hitting your opponents until it is out of the very small ring or it stops. At the beginning you launch it and if this is successfully done you will have more time before it is stopped. You won't see the characters almost at all unless you have enough points to unleash a bit chip special attack. In order to have enough points, hit your enemy and that's that again. Very simple. This can be played with a friend. I'm talking about the vs. mode. You can destroy your opponents Beyblade if you don enough damage before he loses.
The voice acting is horrible, especially the announcers, when he says 3, 2, 1, let it rip! And at times he will talk and if it wasn't for the subs you won't understand a thing. Plus, when a special power is unleash which by the way there is one or two for each character he always says the same phrase for that character. Music is average but does get repetitive. The graphics are passable, though for a 2002 the graphics could have been a bit better. The ring is so small that the slightest mistake can cost you the match. If you're competing in the tournament and you lose you have to start from the beginning and every time comes a character talking to you, he thinks he's your manager or something. But he never speaks.
Excuse me if I wrote the review of a wrong game. But if this is it, the game appeals mainly to those who liked the series. With almost everything limited, there is little what outsiders can enjoy. Let it Rip! has some interesting ideas, but the execution is pitiful; most people will see everything this game has to offer in less than an hour. There is really nothing special about seeing to Beyblade hitting each other, is there?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Graphics = 6.2
Decent everywhere around but the characters don't appear unless a special attack is unleashed. The ring is too small.
Music = 5.3
Very repetitive but the quality is average. Announcer's voice is horrible. Sound effects are somewhat good.
Presentation = 5.6
Some dialogue when you start the tournament. Menus are at least attractive. Load times could have been a little shorter.
Gameplay = 4.7
Hit your opponent until he is out, or keep the match alive until one stops, or just destroy your opponent, you choose. Either way you will see only the beyblades and nothing of the characters.
Camera = 5.9
Always on the ring and never moves.
Story = 3.3
Ha, 2 or 3 modes, tournament, vs. mode and you can upgrade your beyblade, create a player is awful. Expect to see the game has to offer in about an hour.
Difficulty = Very Easy
Unless you are careless the game is easy to breeze through. Only the latest opponents in the tournament can pose a challenge and if you think the main character of the series can win, and then you are wrong, he is fast and goes out in less than 30 seconds.
OVERALL = 5.1 / 10
It's a 2002 game and by now most people have moved to the PS2 or XBOX. If Beyblade was released before it could have been a more noticeable game, maybe. But with higher quality game on the Playstation, with a much, much better value, why waste your time with this? Unless you are a big fan, this shouldn't even pass through your mind!
