What looked dumb turned out to be one of Sega's strongest Gamecube titles.

Billy Hatcher and The Giant Egg is a platformer made by Sega and developer Sonic Team, obviously famous for the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Even though both games are platformers, there is a key difference. Sonic is mostly fast paced. However, Billy Hatcher isn't so fast paced. Oh yeah, and Sonic is a hedgehog while Billy is a kid in a chicken suit who rolls eggs around.

While the concept is more of a: "What the heck was Sega thinking?!" The final game turned out to be more of a: "What the heck was I thinking when I thought this game was crap!" Because as a whole, Billy Hatcher is a fun and neat little game. You can jump but your main attack is with your egg which you simply run into and start pushing around to squash enemies, hit switches, etc. When you squash enemies they'll drop items which your egg grows bigger with. Once it's big enough you can call it with the R button and it'll hatch and a partner will pop out. It is some kind of animal that will help you out.

Each mission has a goal and you are trying to get through the level, defeat enemies, get your egg bigger and complete this objective.

The graphics in Billy Hatcher are good while not entirely special. The water looks great but the character models reside at a "meh." I usually don't like to use that word but oh well. The levels are will detailed and mostly look great. The music is too cheery for its own good but it fits the level that it is on.

Overall, Billy Hatcher is an "unique" and innovative title. The first I believe about rolling eggs in a chicken suit and I would be more than happy to see a sequel in the near future. (Possibly for Wii or DS?)

The moral of this review is to not judge a game by its box art, (Even if it has a kid in a chicken suit on it.) unless the game is Big Rigs which had a surprisingly decent box cover art.
