So you're sister's been kidnapped, eh? Let her rot. It's just not worth it.

User Rating: 2.4 | Bimini Run GEN
Your name is Kenji Ohara and your sister has been kidnapped by your arch nemesis, Dr. Orca, who plans to take over the world. It's time to hop in your boat with your friend and rescue her.

This game is a third-person combat boat racer in which you speed across the waters catching Dr. Orca's henchmen in hopes of finding her. The water's aren't open, however. You'll have to dodge sailboats, sandbars, islands, rocks, and coral reefs as you progress through the game. You'll also have henchmen and helicopter gunfire to contend with as well as a few sea creatures. Most of the time, you can see stuff as it comes, but you also have an overhead map and larger world map that can show you where the obstacles and enemies are which is a nice feature, otherwise you'd be wandering around aimlessly.

The racing element exists in that you have only so much time to find the enemy. This is represented by limited fuel. Also, if the enemy gets too far away, you'll have to start over, so you need to be quick in finding and taking them out. Fortunately, you only have to deal with this for six repetitive chapters. In order to take down your enemies, you have a limited selection of weapons. A bazooka and a gas gun that can fire high and low which only stuns the enemy.

In terms of options and modes of play, there are only 2 difficulty levels, moderate or hard, and you can alter the number of lives you have between 3, 5, or seven. You also have several continues should you lose all your lives. There is a sort of two player mode which has you alternate turns with a friend. That's all there is to this game.

Getting right down to it, the music and sound is typical, and the visuals what you'd expect on the Genesis. The downfall is the controls for steering the boat aren't the greatest. You're basically just weaving around the screen and sometimes you'll accidentally run into something while doing so. Also, it really isn't that interesting a game. It had the potential to be much better, but there was no try. If you don't own this game, don't look for it. It's mediocrity that's good only for when you're sick, medicated, and needing brainless entertainment.
