A run & gun swingin' good game that is grossly underrated. It sticks with you even after you finish it.
Rearmed offers two modes of fighting: the traditional 2D sidescrolling and an overhead view reminiscent of Super C. BC will play in 2D in each level and only switch to the overhead when he is intercepted by an enemy vehicle transitioning from one level to another on the world map. This game contains enough action for any traditional run-n-gun fan but alters the formula by providing the unique challenge of using a mechanical arm for swinging (and attacking enemies, and unscrewing large bolts). All in all, it combines to provide a great 2D action game that has been missing on the console systems since the days of the SNES and Genesis (with the exception of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night).
The only reason I did not give this game a "10" was because of a few occasions where I could not make progress due to a lack of mastery of BC's ability to swing and because I also could not immediately figure out how to successfully complete the computer hacking puzzles and access the enemy's network. Once I mastered these two features, however, I completed the game rather quickly, but not without being substantially challenged.
Overall, I give this game a "9". It is an outstanding adaptation of an old-school game and offers the player plenty to action, challenges, puzzles, and upgradeable equipment and weapons that leaves an impression long after the defeat of the final boss.
