Bioshock 2, one of the most anticipated games of the year

User Rating: 8 | BioShock 2 X360
Bioshock 2, where do I start. Well, incase you don't know Bioshock 2 is the follow up to award winning Bioshock. This is a great follow up, however it doesn't immerse you and it doesn't have the same terror that your in a mad mans uptopia.

The year is 1970, 10 years after our hero Jack has been through rapture. You awake in Rapture, but your missing something...your little sister. Yes, thats right in Bioshock 2 you play as the Big Daddy. However, this is the games greatest failure in my opinion, but we'll get to that. So, as a Big Daddy you automatically need to find her. But we soon learn that the passion can kill, if you are not bonded with her again you will die. Featuring new and old charcters aiding and attempting to kill you, you set off on your journey. The journey through Rapture is a memorable one, but not as memorable as 2007. It is actually very very predictable, and this predictability is a huge disappointment since I don't really want to know exactly what is going to happen. It doesn't take much brain power for some of these events to be thought out if you think about it enough.

I mentioned earlier that you play as a Big Daddy, and that this is the games greatest fault. Well, you constantly hear people on the radio saying that your a tank, you can take so much. However this can't be farther from the truth, it almost feels like they recyclyed the damage system from Bioshock 1. You take the same damage as a normal human, yet your a guy in a armored suit. This takes away greatly from the feeling of being in this destructive growing pile of junk underwater. It also doesn't help that the enemies almost don't fear you. Your a Big Daddy and in my opinion, I'd expect some AI charcters to be a little more fearful. Like the opening scene from Bioshock 1 where the guy runs off. But, yet so much detail was put into your big Daddy charcter, when you jump it sounds like cannons going off when you land. I just don't know why some of this happened the way it did.

However, the rest of the game is almost amazing. Gun fights can be intence and thrilling. When you take down your first Big Sister, you almost are certain to pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

But a thing about the graphics I should add is that there is almost NO overhaul of graphics what so ever. It still feels like Bioshock 1 which is a good thing, but the splicers look the same essentially. Plus, some textures look darn right ugly up close.

Gameplay. 9/10
Graphics. 7/10
Sound. 8/10
Multiplayer. 9/10
Value. 9/10

Overall Verdict
Bioshock 2 is a game worth getting. Its one that will keep you busy for quite awhile, however huge fans of Bioshock 1 might be put off with the similaritys, and sometimes no attention to things.
