Holy fruit loops! This is damn delicious gaming.
That is until Bioshock Infinite showed up with a heaping hearty bowel of good time grits. This game is the bee's knees and more.
Technical:
Controls are responsive (unlike my prom date) and feel natural (unlike her emotions). They challenge skill levels while remaining fair and conducive to the game environment.
Graphics are technically proficient with a strong thought out art design and cohesive direction. Columbia is beautifully scary.
The game's enemy A.I. is spot on given the situations you come across during battle, imploring you to try different strategies. Elizabeth's A.I. is "open the pod-bay doors HAL" scary. Never before have I cared for an NPC companion like I do the classy, mind altering Elizabeth. She will pull your heart strings AND the fabric of time itself.
Concept:
Here is where Bioshock Infinite takes the cake. It's a cesspool of themes both familiar and haunting. Religious fanaticism is still rampant in the USA and Bioshock hits close to home on this theme. So are the themes of racial purity. NOTE* (My favorite moment is my massacre of the crow dudes who resemble the KKK. An FPS where all you do is mow down bigot hamsters like the KKK is ok in my book). So, even with familiar ideas B.I. is very fresh. Some may find the themes difficult while others wreck some personal digital justice.
Story:
You ever read a really good book, that when it was finished you wish you could share your experience and emotion with the world? But alas, you play video games in your basement and nobody connects with you emotionally, except your dog, who loves eating Cap n' Crunch. Don't you wish you could share that story AND the Cap n' Crunch with the world!? Yeah, B.I.'s story is THAT good. I don't like spoilers, so I won't write one, but you will dream of this story. Once I finished my dream of Olivia Wilde making pancakes..... I literally could NOT stop pondering B.I. Finally an FPS where the message in the story is just as important as a well executed, challenging, fun, game.
Bioshock Infinite is a representation of entertainment media in the highest of artistic form.
Now, get off this review. I mean it.... My opinion doesn't mean snork snot unless you play it yourself... so...go. You cheap old man, go buy the game and awe in its majesty. AND if you don't like it. Well, that's okay....... you just risk angering the Prophet.
