Bioshock is a great game with an amazing story and atmosphere.
The controls for Bioshock are fairly standard for an FPS and I haven't experienced any real problem in using them. Easy switching between the numerous weapons and abilities. Everything works out very well in this area.
Bioshock deals heavily with it's story as it gives you tapes to listen to from important characters of the game. As you walk around the immense map, tapes are collected and can be listened to in order to better understand what everything is all about. While never really having cinematics in this game, it does a great job of story telling from the first person view that you have during the whole game. The atmosphere of the game just makes you feel like you're actually there and it creates a really immersive experience.
Bioshock takes place in Rapture, an underwater utopia gone wrong, essentially a dystopia. Although this may seem like a dry topic, Bioshock makes it grittier and takes the story further. The people of Rapture have taken gene splicing too far and have become deranged from the splicing, and makes them out to get you.
Bioshock enables you to have several abilities at a time that you can switch through to help you in several ways through the game. Some things can just help you interact (and also help in combat) such as Telekinesis. Other things are just for straight up attacking like Electro Bolt. These abilities come in handy in most situations and you'll find yourself cycling through them constantly to fit your immediate needs, and with the simple and quick switching system, this is very easy. All of these abilities are integrated seamlessly into the game.
In order to get more abilities you need what is essentially the currency for getting abilities, Adam. This Adam can be found in little girls who roam around Rapture. However, they don't just roam around alone; they are guarded by big daddies. These large adversaries have a lot of health, and you need to be very strategic in the way you take them down. It becomes a whole new experience every time you come to fight one of them.
Hacking security machines like security cameras and turrets will help you to defeat your enemies. They can do different thing like trip the security alarm and get flying machines to attack your enemies, or just make turrets engage your enemies. This adds to the dynamic style of this game. You're battles will always change depending on your current health, machines around you, number of enemies, possibly big daddies, the abilities on hand and so much more. It's really a very highly dynamic game.
The game is really solid and fun from beginning to end; but that's just it, it's only solid. It's not a spectacular game, I felt like it dragged at some points, a lot of the time I felt like I had too much power and it was too easy. Also, it's hard enough to die, but even if you die, there's hardly a penalty for it. However, at some times, I felt like the difficulty changed so drastically and it just felt so difficult. So overall, great game and definitely worth playing.
