The graphics, the sound effects, and the plot are all highly involving. Where the game fails, in my opinion, is the combat, and the fact that you respawn when you die at any number of conveniently placed Recharge Stations. Any ammo you expended in the fight is gone, but all enemies are still injured. And the fights themselves are not very hard (save for the Big Daddy's, which are brutal). Furthermore, i could not stop thinking about why this society would have SO much ammunition and explosives in such a fragile environment. Maybe it is just another testament to their madness. Bioshock had a wonderful chance to really push the FPS and Sci-fi horror game to the next level, and it came very very close. If you died and suffered some consequences, which forced you to change your strategy (like in most games, you have to adapt to win) then this game would have been much better. If they could have come up with more animations for picking up objects, for example, and interaction with the environment other than reloading the ample weapons scattered around, it would have also sucked me more into the gameplay. The enemies are fairly repetitive, but the ones that are there are well done, especially the BD's and Little Sisters. I haven't quite finished yet, but i am itching to see how the rest of the plot will unfold. I'm playing on Hard, and it's really just not that hard, compared to other FPS. Still, it is a very good game, and if they can fix the combat in Bioshock 2, then it will be fantastic.
