What can I say about Bioshock?
As you start the game there are several challenges you face such as what am I doing here, Why is this dude with a lead pipe attacking me, and why do I not have second thoughts about jabbing some needle into my arm? Or maybe this is just my experience with the first level. But anyway starting off is fun, right off the bat you're handed a wrench and an electricity plasmid. Not bad for giving you're enemy the old "1, 2 punch" as Atlas would say. There is practically no limit to what you can accomplish when combining your plasmids and using them together. For example, you could set someone on fire and then electrify the water that they jump in. Or freeze an enemy and shatter them with a powerful shotgun round. With the wide variety of weapons comes customized ammo (Such as anti-personnel machine gun rounds) and weapon upgrades that increase fire power, range, durability, etc. of your favorite weapons.
A very major theme in the game that plays a large role in the story and ending of your game is what the citizens of Rapture call 'Big Daddies and Little Sisters'. The story is, Andrew Ryan went to the bottom of the ocean to build his city where the great would not be constrained by the small, and scientists wouldn't have to worry about being criticized by religious people. Well, after a few years of the city being built with happy citizens and all that, some people discovered these Sea Slugs that carry the genetic material 'Adam'. Once people started using it, it became addictive because you could change your look, sex, race, even learn to shoot fire from your fingertips. But after a while of this usage, the people started to change, they became ugly and started wearing masks to cover their faces. Meanwhile there are several industries such as Andrew Ryan's that marketed and sold the Adam to the people. Adam keeps the wheels turning in Rapture, everyone wants it, everyone needs it. So Ryan, being the genius that he is, finds a way to make these slugs inhabit the bodies of little girls, thus creating the 'Little Sisters'. Marketing gold he called it. But after a while, the Adam supply starts running low, and people start to kill one another for it. The Little Sisters are sent to harvest the Adam from corpses throughout the city with a large needle. But the people started killing them, so what does Ryan invent next? The Big Daddy suit. Big Daddies walk side by side with the little sisters through the game and if you want to get to the Adam, you have to get through them.
Once you do kill the Big Daddy and you have the little sister in front of you, you have the option to save them, or harvest them. While saving them gives you less Adam, you get gradual rewards for being so kind throughout the game. Or you could be like I feel most of the time and hog all the Adam for yourself. You use the Adam to buy upgrades and more plasmids for your further destruction of Rapture. The choices you make with these Little Sisters also greatly determine the outcome and ending of your game. Make a wise choice.
Other aspects of the game give it fun puzzles such as hacking security bots, cameras, and vending machines. it gives you a break from the hectic reality that is, as well as making it a little easier to get what you need and kill more enemies. There are audio diaries that you will find periodically through the course of each play through, showing you what it was like when the adam hit the fan from the view points of several individuals.
All in all, the game is great and has amazing replay value even if you're only in it to hit stuff with a wrench. It is fairly easy to get all of the achievements if you're like me and like to fully complete a game. So if you're into first person shooters with an unmatched story board, Bioshock is your best bet.
