Just simply too old school to stand up to it's contempories

User Rating: 5.5 | Black PS2
Gun porn .. the phrase that launched black.

this game was released witha lot of hype over it looking as good as many 360 games while running on a PS2 / xbox it also sold itself on being unique all action all thrills FPS.

So first things first those graphics .. they are nice .. i've played the PS2 version and i've got to admit while playing it i am thinking .. yeah ... this looks like a very good looking Xbox game .... but it's sure no 360 game !
compared to other titles on the PS2 , fire warrior , killzone , timesplitters though i would say it's either the best looking FPS or it's tied for first you really shouldn't have too many complains there.

However this is where the complains start to rack up ... this game was released in the same time frame as Half life 2 and well after Halo 1/2 and unfortunately it owes more to doom than it does to any of it's modern peers. the BIGGEST problem with the game ( and this is the same complaint that can be leveled at Scarface ) is that you can't jump .... not a big deal really except that your path is constantly blocked by barriers no more than 12 inches high .. this sometimes prevents you from backtracking and overall just really annoys you. this is just too old school a way to force people to play the game a certain way and ultimately is far more restrictive than is acceptable in this day and age.

and then there are the rest of the problems weapons aren't varied ... the story not gripping ... and the action not as exciting as in other games. leaving this game with nothing original to do a very short story to do it in and a list of empty promises ... if you want all out action and thrills in an FPS you can find everything that black does in other games ... and if your willing to stray off the PS2 you'll find games that do it all far better.

However if your not what your left with is very nearly the best FPS on PS2 .. but at the end of the day it just goes to show what an empty accolade that is !
