An admirable effort, it just falls short

So I'm quite sure these guys were trying to overcome two major problems in FPS games. 1) the use of hack programs (chams) that allow you to see through walls and know the location of every enemy on the battlefield 2) annoying camping snipers that dont contribute to team objectives. this is accomplished by a visor that gives you a four second godmode view of the battlefield. you can't shoot during your god mode moment, but you can see exactly where every enemy is.

so... ok thats cool, but it has some really negative side effects that really overcome its benefits. after you get this information you basically lose all the tension in the game. you spawn, enter godmode, and run straight toward the enemy hoping to get kills before your teammates get them. sniping is basically nonexistent since nobody can effectively set up a sniper hide and this is coupled by the relatively small urban maps. it basically devolves into a twitch exercise that rapidly becomes tedious. the tension of wondering whats around the next corner basically dissappears entirely, and gone completely is the terror in knowing a sniper is on you, but the inability to target his location. sad.

there is an extensive system of equipment "upgrades" that is more detailed than pretty much any other game, that goes into individual gun and armor parts. sadly the system fails to generate much interest since the starting equipment is pretty much better than any of the "upgrades". frankly i only played till level 4, but man, there's just not much going on here. if you are willing to spend some money or truly large amounts of game time you can get stuff which does look simply better, but meh. who cares. i did notice a stealth pack at like.. level 20. ok, but frankly i'm not willing to wait that long. crysis multiplayer is probably going to trump any attempt at stealth by this game.

speaking of superior games. this game is in my opinion beaten at every possible level by battlefield 2142. now frankly i would love to see THAT game upgraded since i've played the bejessus out of it. here you have the mechs and man on the same battlefield idea, which imo is a great one. its just done so much better in battlefield which holds a much richer and more enjoyable experience.

the maps in this game are more like call of duty/combat arms maps, which imo is a completely bad thing. on top of god mode, the mystery of the opponents location is further eliminated by a text box floating above every enemie's head indicating something like his name or some crap. as if god mode wasn't enough. so now you have a small map, where sniping is nearly impossible and everyone knows exactly where everyone else is. yawn. there really isn't much left to the gameplay. they have added a small hack minigame that doesn't offer much other than adding a small bit to the wait of securing a control point.

i guess its just sad. i have repeatedly been annoyed with people that cheat at fps games, but now that i've played a game that basically lets you hack, i can now understand just how lame hacking is. its just way less fun of an experience. too, ive also been annoyed with useless snipers in bfbc2 that contribute little or nothing to team objectives and quite frankly have tk'd many of them, but nerfing sniping almost entirely in this game sadly fails to solve the problem.

i think this game compares best to combat arms, and is a bit like counterstrike. all are free. all have small maps. you can decide for yourself if you like having a four second godmode. i didn't. i have played a lot of combat arms, and sadly the totall will be more than this game. i just can't see myself coming back to it again and again. its just not as fun. thanks to the developers for the effort tho.
