A fast paced in-your-face shooter that will keep you on your toes from start to stop.
First off is the weapon customization. You can change everything about your gun from the barrel on your rifle to the stock, magazine and scope that you take into battle with you. There's even special skill boosters called "tags" that attach to the side of a gun that add to character stats, which is broken up into three categories: Damage, Speed, and Health. While not having a major effect on gameplay, they can give player just the edge he/she needs to win. The only cosmetic only change is the gun's camo. Even armor can be slightly customized, with 6 different suits that effect stats and camo.
Secondly, there is the HRV (Hyper Reality Visor to you and me) which is essentially a wall hack. Players cannot shoot or throw grenades with it activated, but it show's the location of all players on the map. Note: use with caution, it takes a few seconds to deactivate it which is long enough for an enemy to drop you if you are not careful.
One thing that this game does very well in is the graphics department. While some textures are a little low resolution, the overall look is very impressive. The game was made with the Unreal Engine and occasionally you can see the texture popping that has plagued the engine, but that does little to detract from the "Blade Runner" look of the game. While being completely unrelated to graphics, I feel the need to point out that the game also does a very good job of keeping people with the same clan tags on the same team.
Sadly I cannot hail only the good while ignoring the bad. The game's "singleplayer" can be played cooperatively with up to four people, but there are only four missions that are painfully short. Enemy A.I. tend to always know where you're at and the plot, or what qualifies for one, is fairly shallow. Multiplayer suffers from an overabundance of quitters, it's near impossible to finish a match without at least one person quitting. While many games have found ways around this issue, i.e. drop in/out, Blacklight has no such feature as of yet, which can make for some painfully one sided matches. Another important feature that finds itself missing is a party lobby. It can be very difficult to play with friends at times, trying to join their game lobby before it fills up.
Despite it's flaws Blacklight: Tango Down is still a very solid shooter that is a definite buy for the low price fifteen dollars.
