Classy old style point-&-click adventure. Solid story and good voice-acting. Requires some good thinking to solve.

User Rating: 8.5 | Blackwell Unbound PC
Blackwell Unbound, the second in the Blackwell series by Wadjet Eye Games reverberates some of he more in-depth adventure games that used to be around; Even though it can be a bit short in playtime.

The solid storyline and good voice-acting from the first epidode (The Blackwell Legacy) is continued as we pick up the Blackwell family history with Lauren Blackwell in 1973. The family legacy is a 'spirit guide' in the form of the ever present, but ghostly, Joey.

The scriptwriter(s) get the relationship between Joey and Lauren just right and the fine voice-cast excels in making the most of the dialogues. The game also gets the music just right. Never intrusive, but flowing and sometimes catchy. The atmosphere of seventies New York is is quietly blended in the background to give room to the characters which are key in the game.

This all results in a immersed gameplay experience even though the graphics are retro (similar to most Lucasarts and other adventure titles from the early nineties).

Like in those games, lots of questions and interaction with all the protagonists are required if you want to make headway, and even the most experienced adventurers sometimes will have a hard time making the next step. Because the game is so engrossing this never really irritates. I found myself curious about the next part of the story for almost every part of the game.

A nice feature is the bonus content that can be unlocked which provides for some re-playability. All in all another solid title from Wadjet Eye
