Sure there's Madden or NFL 2K5, heck even Backyard football. And although you may love how every pass interference, offsides, or face mask penalty can change the tide of the game, but wouldn't you like to slam your knee into a reciever or smash someones face in and change the tide of the game in that fashion? In Blitz, you can. Every thought you think when you play or watch football either comes out of the coaches mouth or one of the players' mouth in this game, you know all of the curse words you hold back and don't say?
In Blitz you create your own team and take them through 30 some odd brutal games of football. You choose the coach, the Rookie of your team, the veteran of the team, the doctor,...EVERYTHING. There is even some cool team logos, jerseys and accessories for your team. But the best part, Is the sort of "levelling up". You can train every single player differently, from strength, hand power, tackling, to how well your player can break a tackle. You can even upgrade the training courses they take to make them recieve, all the more strength, etc. Then you can go buy a new set of helmets, shoes, pads, gloves, and sleeves. Each adding their particular attribute to the team, whether it's speed, tackling power or the ability to resist injury. Then you'll check for messages from other teams to see if they challenge you to get 4 sacks in a game against their team or a variety of other challenges, each that will give you an unlockable item if you complete the challenge. Go change the outfit your cheerleaders are going to wear or change the actual squad...then...hit the gridiron.
On the field you will play the most brutal game of football you've ever played, charge up your clash meter for a dirty hit on a QB which might tear his ACL, fracture his fingers, give him a spinal cord contusion, any number of injuries which will have a player out anywhere from one play to one season. Then there is always the choice to juice your player (drug him) or treat him appropriately, juicing wil have him on the field sooner but with worse performance. then you will go on offense where you might have a full clash meter and go slow-mo, juke the defense, the stiff arm one away, run a few yards and be demolished by the D. And if you get hit with a "dirty hit" you'll lose stamina, making that player slower and more prone to injury. (I told you it was a fast yet in depth game). There are numerous other features in the game from betting on who will win the game (and getting money for it) to taking your team online in a football showdown with great multiplayer, but if I listed them all...well you'd be wishing you were playing the game instead of reading this.
Blitz is the best football game this year, since many developers dont have interest in making a football game without the NFL name (which EA unrightfully bought so no one else could make an NFL game). But even though it is not an "NFL" game, it IS THE BEST football of this year.
