Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain

One of my top 5 games, ever

I am just now revisiting this game on my PS3, and I'm reminded by how much a game's graphics are the least important factor in how good a game actually is. Back in the day, Blood Omen's graphics were easily among the best on the PS1, and the CGI cut scenes were ahead of their time. They still hold a memorable beauty today, but of course they're completely outdated...and luckily it doesn't matter.

For a 12 year old game to stand the test of time for me, it goes to show the quality of everything else in the game. Fun factor, sound and voice acting, movie quality story, and hours and hours of play time, this is among a handful of games I would give a perfect 10 to, Zelda: OOT being one of the only others ever. While I've enjoyed the action styled Soul Reaver "sequels", they can't hold a candle to the original, and I can only hope that one day the series returns to the RPG roots of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.
