Depending on one's tolerance for boobs 'N' blood, there's a decent amount of great action to be had with this game.

Warning: I've expressed two opinions in this thread. The first opinion, which was inspired by my initial playthrough two months before the second, is prematurely negative. The second opinion, however, is my final verdict, and is mostly positive. I've offered both of my opinons to serve as an example of how some of us sometimes judge games too quickly. Here's my initial reaction.... Well, this game's got style, I'll give it that. Underneath all the style and flashy graphics tricks is a hardly playable game that, at times, shines as a prime example of why releasing games unfinished may eventually kill the videogame market. I, for one, am getting sick and tired of games with flashy graphics and sounds, but broken game controls. It's a sickening trend that almost makes me want to boycott the industry until they get their $#@% together. This is ridiculous! Horndogs will love this game, and so will gorehounds, who'll dig the game's violence and gore (which there is plenty of). Others, I figure, will thik it goes too far, violence-wise. My opinion: They could've toned it down just a little, especially since it gives the game the all-around superficial feeling that it should have been avoiding in the first place. There's a market for games like this, and as I've said, it'll probably love playing this game. I've tried to approach the game as not only a novelty game (one to play just for the hell of it, and not to get good at it or anything), but also as a guilty pleasure (there are limited "jiggle animations" for guys who like subtlety). Eventually, I just gave up on the game, as the unpolished nature of it grated my nerves too bad. A stab at a stlyish action game, but plays more like a sloppy second. P.S. Why is EA's Catwoman game seen as an awful game for having bad Prince of Persia-like controls and a bad camera, while Bloodrayne 2, which has the very same, gets lauded as a good action game with a few minor flaws? Updated Opinion--(December 2004) My opinion of the game has changed a bit, after played through it once again. It's a uniquely entertaining game that features many excellent subtle and not-so-subtle action set-pieces. The controls are decent, yet prone to technical glitches (this is what drove me to write the previous opinion). The graphics, as I've said, are very good--dark, yet vibrant--same for the sounds. This game's pacing is that of a cleverly entertaining b-movie, with Rayne (whose voice actress is very pleasing to the ear) serving as an intriguing enough character with a properly skewed perspective on life and some hilarious one-liners. This game still has its share of problems that one may or may not look past. I, however, have decided to look beyond the game's technical flaws and found it to be a great straight-up action game--perhaps one the the most consistent action games released this generation. I've edited a great portion of my previous opinion, in concordance with my renewed views. This is a great game to own. It features a lasting single-player game, great graphics and sound, a stunning (both visually and aurally) lead character, stylishly over-the-top violence, and capable gameplay. As I've said, this game could've used a bit more polish and fine tuning, but the end result is better than my previous opinion would have you believe.
