I wanted this to be amazing. So much potential! But it fell very short. Get satisfaction in the sequel, leave this alone

Bloodrayne was ambitious to a fault. A big fault. It wanted to do too much with too little time. The premise was great, an excellent story, character designs and enemies...i mean who doesn't want to ice nazi's? tee hee. But the graphics engine was weak (can you say jaggies?), the boss's although creative were not well balanced. Speaking of balance the difficulty curve was all over the map like a roller coaster.
Then there there's the level design and orienteering involved. No map function and the aura ability kept having me run into walls. The control scheme left little to be desired too. I was annoyed half the time i was playing. Oh well.

Now if you're looking for asilver lining to this review, congrats, there is one. A saving grace as it were. Bloodrayne 2 (the sequel) is better looking, controls better, has a comparable story, better boss's, astronomically better puzzles, weapons, a.i., enemies, difficulty curve....it's all better. all of it.
you want a good bloodrayne title? go buy the sequel now. :)
