Bomberman will always be good... but this game is maybe-too-worn territory to a fan of the series.

Bomberman will always be king. Ever since I rented Super Bomberman for my SNES back as a kid... I've been hooked on the addictive multiplayer and played many versions of the game.

I had some spare Wii points burning a hole in my pocket, so I took the plunge and got Bomberman 93. So how does this game stack up?

To put it simply... not well. This game is one of the older ones in the series. Therefore, a lot of the enjoyable features and clean presentation of other Bomberman games is not present here. It's pretty much just like the original NES game.

For a 16-bit game, the graphics are kindof baloony... not very good, compared to the crisp look of the SNES Bombermans. The music is forgettable, as usual.

You'll be spending your time playing multiplayer on this one... because like every other Bomberman game, the single player is easy and boring. Then again, if you're looking for a laid-back puzzle game you might like the singleplayer. Even still, you can finish in 2-3 hours.

Multiplayer is cool... up to 5 players (thanks again PCE) on one of eight maps. The maps are sufficient, though for some reason I wish they were larger.

The Verdict:

Overall, this is a very mediocre Bomberman game. For those with access to the SNES games, the PC game, the GBA game, the DS game or the PSP game... you've got better choices than this.

The Gamespot review made it sound better than it did.
In truth, Bomberman has always been a great game, I just wish they'd picked a better version of it to tempt me with on the virtual console. Players who will get the most out of this game are players who have never played bomberman, or extreme fanatical diehards. I'm closer to the latter but not quite... so Bomberman 93 stands out to me as a mediocre entry in the series.

+It's Bomberman, so It's good
+5 player multiplayer
-Its an old version with few features
-Graphics are lame, even for a bomberman game
