I made no secret of the fact that I did not like Borderlands. The quests were repetitive and monotonous, the weapons were pathetically weak and the crappy checkpoint system and constantly respawning enemies meant you had to fight the same battles over & over. Fast forward to 2012 and the sequel is one amazing game. All of the above faults have been addressed - except one. The quests are now insanely good. Side quests in particular have inproved out of sight. They are now frequently more involved than the main quest. They can lead you through several different environments to your objective and throw you a complete twist at the end. Some of them are hilariously imaginative. My favourite has you searching for a cache of weapons through several bandit strongholds and ends up in a 3 -way standoff in a graveyard (yes, exactly like The Good, The Bad & the Ugly).he weapons are fantastic. In the early part of the game they are pretty ordinary and every fight becomes a struggle, but suddenly about Level 10 or so, you start acquiring really good guns and fights become a pleasure rather than a chore. At Level 20 I acquired an amazing SMG that spits acid bullets and takes down everything in sight. The sense of power and confidence with which you approach even the toughest fight with weapons like that is one of the highlights of the game and contributed significantly to its addictiveness.I would love to give this game a 10. It deserves a 10. It is one of the best games I've played in years. But - there remains the continuing ridiculous situation with the checkpoints and respawning enemies. It is simply bizarre that when you leave the game, as you have to, most of have a life after all, with a quest unfinished, when you return to the game, you restart not at the point you left, but at the start of the level, with every single enemy you have already vanquished respawned and you have to fight them all over again. Some of the levels are huge, the Wildlife Preserve for example has more than a dozen massive sections that have to be fought through, and if you leave before reaching the end, you will have to fight every single one of those enemies again. Even mini-bosses respawn. I fought that damn badass rocket-shooting robot midway through the Wildlife level 5 times before I could complete the Bloodwing quest. What's even worse, on some of those long levels, is that enemies will respawn behind you, so if you have to backtrack for any reason, to find ammo etc, there they are again. Its frustrating, its annoying and its totally unneccessary. If anyone can come up with a mod that will remove this incessant respawning and institute a proper checkpoint system, then this game will be a 10, pure and simple. I want it to be a 10. It deserves to be a 10. It should be a 10.
