Fun game with friends. Often boring.

User Rating: 7.5 | Borderlands PC
Borderlands is a decent game with a fair amount of playing time. There are loads of weapons with millions of different stats to compare. While there are a lot of different weapons many of them look the same but have different stats.
This makes finding the appropriate weapon a little annoying as you consistently need to compare weapons which look identical.

The game quite often bored me, if it wasn't for a LAN friend things would have been incredibly dull. The later sections of the game pick up at just the right time to keep you playing. Areas begin to open up and help hold your attention a little longer.

I can't help but feel more and more developers are spending less and less time on the level design and how the actual story plays. Borderlands doesn't have a story. Side quests and the main quest seem to flange together in a mess of run and gun leaving you scrolling through your journal trying to remember what the heck you were doing in the first place. That said the combat is fun and satisfying.

The leveling up and skills are good and really help improve the experience. As usual, there is potential but nothing to make you feel - "this is awesome!"

Graphics: Different style which helps the general boring look of the sandy environments.
Sound: Not bad. Funny character sounds.
Story: There's a story?
Gameplay: Fun, but at the same time boring

Improvements: The level design needed a lot more work. Adding a ToolSet might have saved it a little. Perhaps the community could have spiced the levels up a little. This game begs for Multiplayer of 16 or more players. I couldn't help feel that this could have been a crazy multiplayer experience.

Conclusion: Another sad sad hit and miss game, enjoyable, but not. If you need a game to fill some hours then this is the game for you. If you enjoy collecting and comparing weapons then this game will suit you. If you want a unique single player experience then look away.
