My friend and I were looking for a good co-op game to play recently and I had the thought that I had played Borderlands 1 over a decade ago and loved it. We decided to start the whole series and play through it. I am happy to say that Borderlands holds up well all these years later. There are some dated quirks to the game, but it is still a lot of fun and runs really well on current Xbox hardware.
Years ago, I was pushed to play Borderlands with a friend and quickly fell in love with it. I went on to play 2 and loved it as well. As time had gone on I wanted more games like Borderlands, but few lived up to it. Destiny was a game I had hoped would be as good, but it just didn't live up to the standards set by my adventures on Pandora. Playing the game in co-op is a must as it's fun to find new weapons, help each other out, and get into big firefights with crazy enemies. The only drawback could be that sometimes enemies feel a little too spongy and the open world is very segmented as a result of old hardware the original game was built around. None of this makes the game less fun overall, but they are signs of dated game design.
The game runs very well, as well. Back in the day I remember playing the game and thinking it looked quite good. Today the game looks crisp and the cel-shaded artwork looks superb from top to bottom. Further to that, the game on Xbox Series X runs at 60fps and I don't think I saw a single hitch along the way.
If you are thinking of diving back in or playing for the first time, Borderlands is definitely still the amazing game you remember or that you have heard others talk about.
