I've played Borderlands for over 200 hours (single player not online) and still enjoy it. I can't recall another game that I could say this about despite playing better and more enjoyable games. While resolutely avoiding taking itself even the slightest bit seriously it keeps you engaged particularly if you like a bountiful distribution of loot and achievements. The sense of humour is often hilarious and the voice acting excellent and completely in keeping with the game. The FPS mechanics aren't the best I've played certainly not a match for CoD4 or BF2. I also find the frame rate on my reasonably fast system often drops unacceptably low for what I assumed would be a less taxing game engine given the cartoony almost cell shaded graphics. Nonetheless the game design keeps you involved and two of the three DLCs (Zombie Island of Dr Ned and the Secret Armory of General Knoxx) have been great. The middle DLC, Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, is, for me, too frenetic and too hard to be pleasurable. General Knoxx in particular is excellent value as it almost another game in itself involving new features and humourous characters. The double walkthrough concept and associated rebalancing also works well. The recent addition Steam achievements and the announcement of a 4th DLC indicates a refreshing and justifiable commitment to the game. I wholeheartedly recommend this as a wholesome chunk of FPS fun for the achievement junkie.
