While not being my first choice for a new game if I had the chance, Borderlands is a great mix of what many people enjoy. If you like Role Playing Games then you got it because this game will send running around hunting and collecting items for people as well as sending you closer toward the finish of the storyline. Another aspect of the RPG status of this game is the customization of your character. Not only can you choose your class, but you can also change what the color clothes they wear are, what guns, shields, grenade mods, and character mods they have equipped. Like many RPGs the weapons, shields, and mods are not limited to what you buy, but what you find on your travels, for instance in Final Fantasy X where you can buy some equipment, others are handed to you through story, and others you have have to find. With our final aspect of RPG in this game, I will end it with the leveling system. While being a short grid with only 30 slots, each one can be leveled up 5 times. On top of this there is the very first grip slot that i left out of the count because yo can only put 1 point into it and it opens the others. This is your action skill that you deploy at anytime throughout the game. The leveling system can tweak with components of the action skill or it can mess with what your character themselves can do. This ranges from shooting, reloading, and recharging the action skill faster to other quirks such as more ammo for certain types of guns or all guns, more melee damage, longer time for action skill to be deployed, and small instant action parts that only work after killing an enemy. Another part of the leveling system is the proficiency page. This page helps you see your proficiency with the types of guns you have used. To raise your proficiency, you have to kill enemies with that type of gun. With each proficiency level, a little tweak to the guns is made that will allow it to shoot or reload faster, do more damage, have more accuracy, and for a special kind of gun it will lower the recharge rate. While having that RPG aspect to it, it also has a lot of what you could want from a Shooter. It has the frequent blood splats from shooting enemies, It has body parts that fly off if you shoot them, it has explosions that will rip the enemies body apart, if your gun is strong enough it will cause the enemies to blow up into a giant blood splats with innards scattered about, and it also has the disgusting quirk where if you run up to a freshly killed body of a human, you can shoot of all it's limbs and you can damage it all the way down to being just a bloody stump on the ground. This is definably not a game for the squeamish, or for people who do not like overly excessive amounts of blood.
