An okay bowling game.

First off, I have to say I'm a sucker for bowling games. I like bowling and while I don't bowl in a league, I have a pair of shoes and a bowling ball.

I've never found a perfect bowling game and right now, I'd say the best current gen bowling game I've played is High Velocity Bowling for the PS3.

There, now that you have some background, you can put my comments in perspective.

I bought this game for $4.99 to play on my PS3 and PSP and PSP Go.

It's okay. It's not horrible. If it had been two or three dollars, I'd be a little more forgiving.

The basic gameplay is as follows: you position your ball with the D-Pad, you press X to select your power, a line goes back and forth across the screen and you press X to select your angle of approach and then you select the curve you want.

The more power you select, the quicker the subsequent selections are.

There is no undo button. Once you make a shot selection, you can't say oops, that's too much power or a bad angle or too much curve. You're stuck with what you pick. Now this may be a deliberate game design so that you're forced to make the best of what you selected, but in other games and in the real world, you can re-adjust things like your initial starting point, your aim and so on.

There are no lane conditions and the balls do not come in different weights.

There are 3 lanes to choose from and there are 9 ball colours.

There are 3 main game modes - Quick Play, Single Player and Pass 'n' Play.

Single Player has 3 Game Series, Strike-O-Thon, Spare-O-Thon and Practice and Pass 'n' Play has 3 Game Series, Strike-O-Thon and Spare-O-Thon.

Strike-O-Thon gives you points for how many strikes you can get. Once you stop getting strikes or spares, the game ends.

Spare-O-Thon gives you a variety of spare situations and gives you 3 chances to make the shot.

The Practice mode allows you to set up any pin combination to practice against.

The background sounds are pleasant and sort of made it feel like you were in a real alley.

The game keep track of your stats and there are awards to win, with bronze, silver and gold ratings.

Overall, it's not bad but its a button reflex game and there are some better bowling games out there for your PS3 and PSP. That said though, I'm having fun with it and its got that one more go feel to it which is always a good thing.

If you've played the snot out of games like High Velocity Bowling, Brunswick Pro Bowling and Air Hockey and Bowling, and you've got five bucks burning a hole in your pocket, you could do worse.
