Breath of Fire IV is by far, the best of the series in all aspects, and is a terrific RPG in general.

First off, let me start with the biggest attraction: the art style. It is simply amazing to look at, from the characters to the little details in the towns. The previous game tried to keep as many elements as it could from the SNES days, and to an extent it worked, but in the graphics..it didn't. This game does. Having gone with a manga/anime design for the world and characters, Capcom elevated this series to the ranks of Final Fantasy in terms of presentation. Spell effects are beautiful, the new Combo attacks look awesome, and Ryu's Dragon forms are a sight to see. As far as the combat goes, there are very few changes made to the combat system. But then again..if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The ability to change party members during combat is always a good idea, as is two characters being able to pull off a united attack that is much stronger then the original attacks. the varience in enemies is also a good thing, as you will meet some brand-new to the series. The story is always the most important aspect of any game, and although the 'destined to save the world' thing has been done a few times before, this time it's done very interestingly. Switching over to Fou-Lu every so often really makes you start to wonder if he's as bad as the legends you hear about him make him seem. One of the few games where I was actually rooting for the 'bad guy'. The sound and music are very good as well, from Nina's small "Hey" in battle, to the music playing in villages. The opening sequence has the coolest music by far out of the whole game though. All-in-all, I would heartily recommend this game to anyone interested in RPGs in general, or the Breath of Fire series in paticular.
