The Good vs Bad when it comes down to Brink.
The Good:
+ Graphics: Nice, sharp, and mostly free of frame-rate troubles, Brink offers a good deal when it comes down to its graphics. Though they may not be the best out there, there is still nothing wrong with them and they look pretty good even in standard definitions. The character designs are creative and textures are all great as well.
+ Sound: I haven't heard much of a soundtrack, but what I have heard sounded pretty good to me. The sounds are well balanced and I didn't find the need to adjust the levels of my sound effects or music to hear the voices nice and clear, which seems to be a problem in some games lately.
+ Gameplay: If there's one thing Brink did right, it's the SMART system, which is basically what helps you pull off all of the amazing and acrobatic actions that make this game stick out when comparing it to others. Just about everything that you have seen in the trailers for Brink can be done in game, and it's actually quite easy to pull off. The game focuses on teamwork and does a great job with it, especially seeing as how unlike most shooters, it is impossible to complete a mission in this game alone. The character customization is great and there are thousands of different combinations that could be made.
+Replay Value: Thanks to all of the clothing, accessories, and abilities that there are to unlock within Brink, those who actually care about unlocking them will have a lot to do. The achievements for the game are easy, but time consuming and there will be a need to play through multiple times.
The Bad:
- Gameplay: For starters, this game is one that is obviously meant to be played online due to the way its set up, which I'm sure was intentional. However, I'm sure the fact that the game is better online because of how terrible the friendly A.I. became was unintentional. Playing alone (with a whole team of A.I.) proved to be nothing but a frustrating and rather annoying time compared to matches that were played online. I had to complete all of the objectives myself, the team would hardly cover me when I needed it, and most of the time, I would be the only person on the team making an effort so it felt as if it was just me VS everyone else. There is no need to watch a single cut-scene, because the story is pretty hard to follow even after watching them.
Overall, Brink is a game that could have been a lot better than it was and ended up making me a tad bit disappointed, but then again, this could mostly be for putting too much hype behind it. Though I bought the game, it is definitely more of a rent worthy title which gets a 7.5 from me. For more of my reviews, look me up on Youtube.com.
