Broken Sword (GBA) - definitely worth playing
User Rating: 8.9 | Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars GBA
As a long time PC adventure game player, I was looking for a good GBA game of the same genre. Having read very positive reviews on Gamespot, I thought I'd give "Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars" a try. The game play was not overly difficult with intelligent - not obscure - puzzles. The story line was very interesting: medieval, religious, cult, world domination, lost treasure, mystery.... The sound, although limited, was very pleasant and appropriate to the events on screen. The graphics were very good, even on the small GBA SP screen (I'd love to see it on a TV through the GC!). The interface, which at first seemed limiting, in which the player is only able to interact with the characters by selecting available "graphic icon topics", ends up being just right for the GBA. Obviously typing was not a reasonable option. The inventory management was also simple to use - including combining inventory objects. Although not a long game by any stretch, the time to complete the entire game was also fair for an average adventure game. My ONLY problem was that the game is tainted by a few bugs. At one point, I was completely stuck, until I looked up a game FAQ (on Gamespot again) to find that there were a few game play bugs that can cause real problems. Some are random while others are sequence related. I would recommend reading just the "bugs" section of the available game FAQs before playing. It will take little away from playing, but potentially save a great deal of frustration and wasted game play time. Aside from these few problems, I would definitely recommend this game to novice and intermediate adventure game fans. Good luck and have fun!
