Gamespot's review was dead-on...

User Rating: 8.5 | Brutal Legend PS3
I started tracking this game from it's announcement and couldn't wait to get it. After reading the initial review from Gamespot, I was hesitant. My wife picked it up for me and I've had some time to see it for myself.

Gamespot hit the nail on the head with this one... It's a very entertaining game, funny, and lots of familiarity throughout (if you've ever been a metal head). A bit cheesy, but not "over the top" cheesy. Lot's of one-liners that, in any other game, would be strange, but fits in this one.

GRAPHICS: The artwork here is outstanding. The scenery throughout the gameworld is cool and believable, though I did see some strange glitches here and there (only with things off in the distance). This doesn't hinder gameplay at all, however. The animations are smooth.

SOUND: Well, if you're into metal at all, you'll have no problem with the sound, because there is lots of music. The voice acting is decent, not great, but good enough. There are a lot of good songs in the mix here, like Def Leppard's "Rock of Ages". The songs fit the situation you're in. The game ROCKS!

STORYLINE: The story is interesting enough that you want to finish the next mission to see what happens next.

CONTROL: This would be the weak area for me... the controls themselves are okay I guess, but the whole time you feel like something is missing. Yeah, the ability to JUMP is not there, but that's not quite it. I can't put my finger on it, but something seems off in the controls. But they are quick and responsive.

CAMERA: The camera is just OKAY. I wish there was a way to set the height of the camera to one position though... it needs to be a bit higher. Sometimes I felt like I was standing behind the character, almost under him in places. During a battle, you can push the camera up to get a bit more of an overhead view, but it always floats back down. I hate that! Third person perspective games should give you full control of the camera and NEVER float from the position (up and down) you set it at.

GAMEPLAY: This game is a blast to play, when you're not busy trying to figure out what the hell you're supposed to be doing LOL. There were quite a few times where I didn't see an obvious point ahead of me (where I am supposed to go). They could have done a bit better with this. The army of "headbangers" that you build through the game are a riot.. constantly banging there heads. You can command them to start a mosh pit... they surround you and start headbanging. The knock down everyone in your path.

FINAL THOUGHTS: My little negative thoughts aside, we enjoyed the hell out of this game, laughed our asses off. There were parts that were very aggravating, but, usually after 1 or 2 deaths, the solution presents itself and you can move along. It's also a good game to play with friends over because its as much fun to watch as it is to play. The game also gives you the chance to choose NOT to hear bad language or gory stuff in the beginning (we chose the bad language and gory details hehe). If you like funny stuff and metal... get this game.
