Hardly dated a bit.
The best way to describe it is that it is similar to the boss stages of Sonic Rush but spun out into a whole game, if Sonic had appeared on the Saturn its most likely that it would be in this sort of form with character sprites and 3D stages.
Back to Bug Too! though, the game itself is a lot better than the original, but it is also quite a bit more difficult to play. The best new addition is the ability to run through the stages. This makes the game alot less tedious to play in general, the music is also improved with it being more filmic to get in on the film spoof theme of the game.
The visuals are very slick for a Saturn game with expansive stages and many effects that were great for their time.
The levels themselves are now situated on hubs with about 3-5 levels per hub, This allows you to try different levels if you get stuck.
There are still problems with it though, the new characters don't make any difference to the game with Bug still being the best of them and the most selected character. The levels can become frustratingly hard as well at times as there are many difficult platforming areas to work your way through.
But those aside this a different game and well worth playing for its wacky humor and unique gameplay.
