A Breath of Fresh Air in the FPS World
I am nothing more than a casual FPS player. I can't get into games like Call of Duty or Medal of Honor. I believe there is enough war in real life that I don't need to simulate it in my living room. When I play a video game I want to do something over the top, something I could never do in real life. If I wanted to fight a war and kill terrorists I would join the army. So when I found out there was a little game out there where I could wield a four barreled shotgun and an energy leash I jumped for joy. Bulletstorm thrives and intrigues with it's creative and alternative approach to an old formula. Giving the player an arsenal of creative weapons and techniques in a hostile and alien world is a welcome breath of fresh air. Has it been done before? On some levels yes and others no. The skillshot system is a fun and unique way to drive the player forward. Rewarding you for not only paying attention to surroundings but thinking outside the box and letting your inner sadist run amuck a bit. That blended with a beautiful yet dangerous world help set it apart from the pack.
The reviews I've read panned the language and vulgarity used in Bulletstorm as excessive or a major draw back to the core game but I more often than not found most of it hilarious. Sometimes the dialog is what kept me going. Honestly if I was marooned and a hostile planet with cannibals and my arch-nemesis I would be cursing up a storm too.
Bulletstorm is a game that doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a "sit back and enjoy the ride" kind of game. Something the FPS genre has needed since Duke Nukem took a hiatus 12 year years ago =)
