This game brings the fun back to FPS. I dont think I've enjoyed a game on such a visceral level for a long time. Its a bit like going down a real fast waterslide. You have no idea where you're going to end up, you just know youre out of control, youre going very fast and you just want to whoop at the top of your lungs. Two major setpieces at either end of the game really sum up the game. In the first, you are on a rickety rail car going at full speed being pursuded by various foes and a giant runaway grinding wheel. You just just careen along wildly trying to hold it together. At the other end of the game, you ride shotgun on a disintegrating helicopter trying to take out a humongous dinosaur while your pilot tries to dodge falling skscrapers. Its simply exhilarating. Then theres the skillshots, the games really unique element. When you pull of a really clever skillshot the feeling is absolutely fantastic. It took me most of the game to shoot someone up the butt, but when I did, it was amazing, terriffic sense of accomplishment, and youre rewarded with major points. Ditto for the rest of the difficult skillshots.
The game is not perfect. Like most checkpoint games, the checkpoints are badly placed. You'll fight through two or three consecutive rooms, get killed and go straight back to the start of the first room, 10 minutes of action & all your skillshots wiped out. Your companions. Ishi & Trishka are great fun to travel with, their banter is terriffic, but they're useless in combat and will often get in your way when trying to perform that great skillshot. But these flaws do not detract from the sheer fun of this game. Its just that, fun, pure & simple.
