This is the best review you'll find for this game. I swear.
GOOD:
-The best graphics you'll find on the Xbox
-Amazing and varied gameplay
-In a nutshell, this is the best racing (and one of the just plain best) game of all time.
B3 provides some of the most fun and intense racing experiences ever.
The control scheme is one of the simplest ever in a game.
R-gas
L-brake
A-boost
Left thumbstick-steer
and if you want theres: black-change songs
Four buttons.Wow. B3 is a game that involves an easy-to-learn-hard-to-master scheme.
To earn boost (which your amount is indicated by fire in a bar that goes along the bottom of the screen), or even enlarge your boost bar, you must take risks.
"Risk=Reward" as the game says.
You can earn boost by doing things such as:
Near Misses(driving close to other cars)
Oncoming(driving on the wrong side of the road)
Air(self explanatory)
Drifting(going around corners sideways, its hard to explain)
Various hits against your opponents
And of course, the most effective one(it fills your bar and extends it), Takedowns. This is when you cause an opponent to crash by pushing them into cars or smooshing them against walls, or doing other sinister things.
Drifting involves turning, tapping gas or brake enough to go where you want the car to go. It is very hard to explain how to drift, but when you master it like I have you'll understand. If your car isn't getting far enough, use gas or boost. If its getting a bit too far, use your brake.
Doing various stunts or finishing races unlocks other races in three different areas: USA, Europe, and Far East.
The US features different, mostly coast or city-themed races.
Europe has mostly snowy tracks.
Far East is very tropical.
Each track is made of different roads, which are all connected together in the same Continent.
As you progress further into the game, opponents become more difficult as you become more skilled, at a perfect pace. You also unlock different cars that go faster and weigh less.
Different game modes in B3 are:
Race-self explanatory
Road Rage-where you score as many takedowns as possible before time runs out or your car is totaled.
Crash- a completely original and strategic mode that involves you driving different cars (such as buses or firetrucks) into busy intersections to score as much damage as possible. As you earn more damage money, you unlock heavier and faster cars to crash with.
The game also has tons of other unlockable awards, such as trophies, special cars, crash headlines, etc.
There is also fun 2-player multiplayer, or modes that involve up to 8 players taking turns.
But this game isn't ALL good.
Sometimes you'll find that opponents have advantages. On several occasions I've seen opponents just plow straight through buses, when you aren't even able to crash into the smallest cars (tuk tuks{3-wheeled motorbikes with roofs, pretty much}!!). There are very few glitches other than that, but when they come (like mysteriously falling through the road after hitting a wall in a drift), they piss you off.
But the good part more than makes p for it. Burnout 3: Takedown provides a unique and invigorating racing experience that provides thrills that other games in the genre don't even come close to.
