I was a big fan of Burnout 2: Point of Impact on the GameCube. While it wasn't the most polished graphically, it was a just a fun game that was easily addictive. I was looking forward to Burnout 3: Takedown with much anticipation and I have not been disappointed. Let me start out by saying what this game is NOT. Burnout 3 is not a realistic driving sim. It's not a NASCAR racer or the type of game where you customize your car and buy funky add-ons and extras. Burnout 3 is simply a fast-paced, easy to learn exciting arcade style racer. The conrols are pretty simple, gas, break and steer. Maybe that's why I love it so much. You don't have to do a lot of thinking, just act and react. There are a few different game modes you can choose from. For those who enjoy a story, there's the World Tour mode. This gives you the chance to compete in races and crash events around the world. By winning events, you unlock new events and new cars. This is a great way to keep the game interesting by providing and ongoing challenge. There's also a simple race mode that allows you to compete in different races with cars and tracks you've unlocked. In terms of gameplay, I think Burnout 3 is not only easy, but very fun. It's quck to get the hang of it, but it's certainly not easy to win. Each race has it's own challenges. The fact that a key goal in the game is to take down your opponents makes it even more exciting and challenging. Not only do you want to win the race, you also want to take down your opponents. Doing so will in turn increase your boost which helps you get ahead. The game controls are very tight, but easy to work with. The speed is amazing! You really get the feeling of what it's like to be racing through traffic. The graphics in the game are very well done. The reflections on the cars and the details are pretty amazing. The overall atmosphere is also realistic and when it comes to crashes, well, it's just awesome. The sounds are good, but not excellent. The engines and street sounds are great. The music is good, I think, but the DJ is pretty annoying. With Xbox, you can turn him off, though. Overall, this is the kind of game you can easily loose a couple of hours on. It's a lot fun, very challenging and something I think I'll be enjoying for a long time.
