Dedicated Burnout fans and players looking for a challenge will find a worthy rental in Burnout Dominator
First lets get what's not here out of the way:
Crash Mode - gone
Online play - gone
Traffic Checking - gone
Replays - gone
Now that we got that out of the way, we can focus on what is here:
Burnout Dominator returns to the setup of Burnout 3 Takedown. You have a career mode that focuses on different car classes and have you earning points towards unlocking the next car class as well as unlocking individual cars.
The driving in Dominator has mainly stayed the same, except for 2 major differences; for one, Traffic checking is gone if you hit any non opponent vehicle from behind you will crash. the second difference is the Supercharge boost system, Fill up your boost completely and your boost meter will turn blue, then use your boost all at once with out letting off and you will score a Burnout combining Burnouts with maniac driving and continuing to pull burnouts result in chaining burnouts and higher scores.
During the career you will compete in several different modes of vehicular carnage. Everything from standard races to drift challenges to a all new cause mass craziness event titled Maniac mode. The fan favorite Road Rage makes a very welcome return as well.
A big problem with Dominator is the Difficulty has been considerably raised artificially from the recent games in the series. Opponents cars seem to always be faster than yours and they seem to always be boosting and dodging traffic with the power of the super A.I. controlled beings that they are and that can cause serious frustration. combine this with the omission of traffic checking and often blind crashes that occur and Dominator can be quite a dream come true for players looking for a challenge. The frustration would be considerably less if restarting an event did not result in a extra complete load time. Point based scoring challenges are also sometimes extremely difficult due to not only the points needed to earn a medal, but also because they not only have short time limits but there is also a end to the track. Just as you think you are on your way to earning a medal, the track ends and you have to restart all over again, regardless if you still had time on the clock. On the other hand some of challenges are so easy such as the Near Miss challenges that it baffles the mind why something like Maniac mode has to be so painfully difficult.
In the end Dominator is a Burnout game and there is Plenty of fun to be had, you just have to get over the downgrades and frustratingly unbalanced difficulty to enjoy it.
