Bushido Blade is one of the first one-on-one fighter (or playable missions) that does not have an HP bar. The game designs "kill-zones" that when hit, your character will die. Also, it was one of the first fighters where you could injure your opponent – either by slashing their arm or leg – to gain an advantage. These aspects made it one of the best one-on-one fighters I have ever played. With a variety of weapons and characters, you are able to design your personal fighter – whether you want to be a heavy weight carrying a giant war hammer, a warrior with a katana, or a nimble ninja with a rapier. The variations of characters-to-weapons also depict some 'real life' qualities. Like when you're the little ninja and you equip her with the war hammer, she takes an incredibly long time to swing the huge weapon. Due to the nature of unpredictability of whether your attack is kill worthy, a single match may take only seconds – or upwards of a half hour. The two player replay value is, in my opinion, priceless. The music and sound effects add to each environment. This game also includes some destructible environments. My personal favorite is the bamboo forest, where a lot of time is spent trying to cut down all the trees before going head to head with your opponent. Granted this game is for a now ancient console system. However, due to Playstation's devotion to reverse compatibility, all of you nostalgic players can still get enjoyment out of this timeless classic.
