California games: Play it, Love it, Play it again, and again ...

I remember borrowing this game from a friend. I played it on my Sega Master System. And to put it simple: I LOVED IT.

You have 6 games to play: Skateboarding, footbag (aka as hacky-sack), surfing, BMX, roller skating and flying disk (aka Frisbee). Eventually you'll get your own favorite. Mine was roller skating. Hopping over puddles, avoiding beach balls, avoiding the sand on the pavement that slows you down, you name it. Different jumps get you different scores. The same goes for the other games: you want to get to the end, or survive the time limit with as many special moves possible, because that's what gets you the higher scores. And that's what the game was all about: getting a better highscore.

Getting a better highscore then the standard highscore, or a previously beaten highscore, gives you a shot at a short little game. You see three tiles swirling. You hit the button to make them stop. If you get three the same, you get an upgrade. There are upgrades for footbag, surfing and BMX.

And then the fun really begins. Your board goes faster, your ball bounces higher and your BMX jumps higher too.

You can literally spend hours trying to get that mega-score. The only and biggest downside to the whole game is simply that you can't leave your console on for ever. And, of course, when you turn it off, those beautiful scores are gone and you can never prove to your friends exactly how high you scored.
