This was definately the best of the Games series, but nowadays the controls feel very clunky.

In the late '80s, famed developer Epyx (sadly no longer with us) created a series of "Games" titles, which featured multiple sporting events. After releasing the Olympics-inspired Summer Games and the equally successful Winter Games, it then hit the jackpot with probably the best entry in the series, California Games.

Eventually released on around 15 systems or so, California Games consists of six events: surfing, roller skating, flying disk (or Frisbee to you and us), half pipe skateboarding, footbag (keepy-uppy) and BMX. Although a couple of these (footbag and surfing) were a bit iffy, the addictive nature of the others more than made up for it.

That said, the game is showing its age a bit now, and while it was addictive stuff back in the '80s, these days the controls feel a bit clunky and cumbersome.

California Games is one for nostalgia fans only; those who owned the original will remember it with great fondness but, if you'd never played it before, it's not going to turn your world upside down.
