In its own respect, this is a great game. But with the large amount of other World War II games, it just can’t compete.
This can be very annoying, especially when you find yourself rooting for them. I guess tactics have no place in this game of mindless charges that result in death.
But the game is genuinely fun and delivers a great and immersive story line, even though it's improbable that the same squad was involved with the African and European campaigns.
You'll also realize your allies are bullet sponges; as in they never die. It amazed me how Treyarch couldn’t figure out any way to advance the story while giving squad mates health meters. Oh well, door openers are a real help.
Graphics: You'll find detailed canyons and buildings everywhere: suffice to say, the environments and particle effects are incredible. Smoke trails whisk away through the air as fires rage mercilessly.
However, the character models are just plain muddy, especially postmortem. Limbs can get stretched beyond the limits of actual humans and eyelids never shut...creepy.
Animations make up for this though (with the exception of running). They were recorded at the same time as most of the dialogue, which is somewhat at the outer limits of today’s technology. This adds a dash of realism.
Sound: Pings galore, the weapons sound perfect! This makes sense seeing as how they had a chance to record even some of the rarest firearms.
The voiceovers are some of the best I’ve ever heard. Band of Brothers alumni had the intensity and physical prowess that came with their original job.
The music, however little of it there is, sounds epic and melancholy while delivering a thrilling soundtrack; making it feel more like a movie than a video game. Nice.
