“God loves the infantry!” Big Red One sets up to be a great WWII game but fails to deliver a tough battle in this genre.
The games battles did not seem to be a real battle. CoD2: BRO seemed to scatter a few Nazis here and there and then hit a respawn button once you killed all the Nazis. I understand that CoD2 is to be a war game and Nazis will fire onto anyone. If CoD2 could have had the Nazis fire upon the human player more often it would have made the game feel as if there were more Nazis on the battle field.
I like the fact that I have a squad that helps in the fight but why I am I not able to do anything? I have to wait for my guy to open a door or fence gate in order to get to the next area. I offer nothing to the conversations in the cut scenes. With these points it makes you feel separate for the squad and more like a muscle gunner that helps the squad get out of sticky situations. My squad feels like one of them have to be hero in the bunker and keeps walking in front of my line of site. I wish Treyarch would have solved this problem because it can get frustrating when I have to use cover but cannot when another member took my spot in front of me in the cramped quarters of the bunker.
The weapons were to scale, but the sound, I felt was really muffled. Although I felt the airplanes seemed to have an amazing sound as they would dive in and drop its payload. The weaponry made the game easy. Once you hone in on the aiming system, a player is able to use automatics as sniper rifles.
The graphics became a strong point in this game. The weapons had amazing detail when brought up to use the site. CoD2: BRO let the player see the war take place in the background making this really defining point for this game because the background had such great detail. Fire and smoke would bellow from tank and cannon fire. CoD2: BRO may not look like the Xbox 360 version of CoD2 but for the PS2 it has striking graphics.
CoD2: BRO makes for a good story but puts you with an annoying squad to take on the Nazi’s. If you have not played this I would recommend a rent since it can be beat in less than 10 hours. CoD2: BRO is yet another WWII shooter that adds a few more used clips to the WWII shooter genre.
*Please note that I did not play this game on-line and played the single player campaign on normal on the Collectors Edition Disk.
