The kind of great history that allows you to play but not to be the star of the movie

User Rating: 7.8 | Call of Duty 2: Big Red One GC
If you're in historical games, and more specifically fan of WWII games, this is a must in your collection.

The game is around several tasks to be performed by the First Division's US Army at WWII, travelling to the most representative places during war, including D Day. You play a rookie at the team who needs to follow orders and, from time to tiem, risk the neck at missions no one else does.

The menu and overall game design reminds you an old movie from the 60's or 70's, which can be actually kind of cool. As there is no multiplayer for GC version the options to play area really simplified to go into campaign but you can configure several options for audio an video, including subtitles or wide-screen.

As you enter the game itself you need to take a bridge, blow a Tiger and defend from a building where, despite your skills, you'll end up injured enough to faint.

The graphic details are good and the overall enviroment is very bright in the day missions, altough, somehow, everything seems dirty, which actually sets the mood to a war game. As for the graphic aspect, the weapons are detailed and look good, except for the grenades, which look as smoke bombs only -and not to mention the poor sound they have. Another weak detail is when you look at the water in some rivers which look really awful, so try not to look at it! At last, you may encounter some rare glitches shich can make some part of your gun going to the infinite covering part of the screen, but take in account this had only passed once to me.

Also, for the sounds, you can hear screaming from all over the place and some specifically for you to keep on the track with your squad. Also some shots and airplanes surrounding you as a very good reminder that you're in the middle of war. In general the sound effects do their job, except when, for a strange reason, all the enviroment sound gets muted and you can only hear yourself. This is actaully annoying when you're in the middle of battle.

As for the overall game you can actually enjoy it, considering is a short one, even if you try the several difficult levels (3). But if you really expect to be the hero try MOH:EA, as in this game you play only as a private with little chance to do any other thing than follow orders and stick to the plan. Perhaps the variety of weapons and tha ability to use some vehicles, as well as the data file you'll earn with each mission is the most attractive.
