Great modern first person shooter with multiplayer to match. This game is worth your time!
As of right now, COD 4 seems to be the fps I have been looking for. I have sampled other games on the PS 2 and loved Black but was unable to play on-line due to this adaptor debacle by Sony. Some of the things on Black were too hard for me and some were confusing as to what exactly had to be done. One level you have so many soldiers to kill it is like you really are fighting an entire division of troops. They just keep coming and coming! Only later after getting pissed off at the difficulty did I find out that the game sends unlimited troops at you until you blow up some machine gun emplacements. Not the case with MW. You could say your AI teammates guide you through the game. They do help and don't just stand there while the enemy is kicking your butt. To keep this short and better to the point I would rather say I agree with 90 to 95% of Gamespot's review of Modern Warfare. Yes, the single player campaign was short. Quality vs quantity?? Maybe. I wanted so much to fly more AC-130 missions. Some Blackhawk missions with a mini-gun. Manning a 50 cal cupola in a HMMWV or the like. I liked the maps but I think that a few could have used more troops and longer battles or they could have used more of the map than they did. Why have closed doors everywhere that could not be opened in a war zone? I found myself exploring the maps just for hidden areas in buildings but most the doors were closed. This would have definitely made this game a 10 for me.
My main dislikes or my main points of frustration has to do with multi-player. Honestly some has to do with my lack if skill if you will. Gamespot's review talks about getting the kill bonus at 3, 5, and 7 straight kills and it says its easier than it sounds. Well, I have yet to get 7 much less 5 straight to use the aerial attacks. This brings me to my second and third point. The match maker for the game tends to place weaker opponents vs stronger opponents. It feels like a one sided fight. And the air attacks given as bonuses just seal the deal for the stronger side. Once your down and the attacks start then your pretty much screwed. Also, the re-spawn should be out of the main area of fighting yet I have been plopped down right in front of or next to the enemy over and over.
To sum it up... Call of Duty 4 is a great game and worthy of practice and play. When the player keeps coming back for more and more after getting beat down over and over, it has to say something about the game and the player's feeling to try to get better at playing. That is, instead of throwing it to the side and going on to the next game like so many of us do.
