An intense shooter that delivers a head shot of adrenaline.
Alas, as the title suggests, this is modern warfare.
The first thing that hits you when you play the game are the amazing detail with the graphics. All of the COD's contained these characteristics but this game took it to another level with how realistic they showed the desert, forests, and urban cities that you fight in.
From the very beginning of the game you're thrown into 2 main storylines. One with the British SAS and one with the American USMC. The main objective is to find who is behind a nuclear attack that takes place in the Middle East, as is the motive of the Call of Duty games..it's never a clear cut answer.
The many different situations you're forced into give the game such a realistic feel especially being so relative in today's world: ultranationalist rebels threatening nuclear launch against the western world for destroying their economies, ways of life, etc.
Eventually your paths cross and you're forced to head off another nuclear attack in the nick of time.
One of the most creative aspects of the game is being able to shoot from an A-130C Spectre Gunship, using 25mm, 40mm, and 105mm cannons in the classic black and white television bore scope was a huge thrill for me personally.
The many different weapons you could use is also a very excellent feature. Calling in air strikes, using "Javelins" (an electronic tracking portable missile), sniping enemies for miles away..the game has got it all.
The multiplayer mode is where the meat of the game is lies. There are so many variances it would take an entire review just to list them. Gaining ranks as you get experience points for kills, assisted kills, etc. was a great touch as your rank starts off as a grunt private all the way up to a 5-star general.
As your online rank increases so do the special abilities you can use while in multiplayer modes. Enhanced bullet penetration, higher accuracy, more powerful explosions, more deadly weapons. It's basically like the old N64 Golden Eye but 5 generations ahead and on steroids.
One nice touch was every time you're killed a "Kill Cam" replays just exactly who, how, and in what circumstance you were killed. It enhances the already pumped multiplayer modes. Genius.
An extremely well made game with a fantastic storyline with challenging achievements and an even more challenging online multiplayer mode. A must have for any shooting aficionado.
