Ready your exosuit and fight the evil corporation in Sledgehammer's latest game, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
After the disastrous attempt on welcoming the next gen console with Ghosts, Activison sent a new studio, Sledgehammer, to fix things. Is this co-creator of Modern Warfare 3 up for the challenge? Or this is just gonna be another failure?
The Story (7/10)
+ Kevin Spacey is awesome!!!
+ The characters are not as empty as Ghosts but still not as great as Black Ops series
- this is a personal story just like Ghosts so you only play as one character
- the story is too predictable and cliche, you can see the twist from the first teaser trailer
- still not many badass character like the Modern Warfare series
The Gameplay (9/10)
+ exosuit gives you a new way to play Call of Duty by adding verticality to the gameplay
+ the campaign work pretty well in displaying the exosuit ability
+ still the same fluid and precise control
+ still the same crazy awesome action set pieces
+ enough gameplay variety on campaign to keep it fresh
+ smart grenades is surprisingly useful especially to tag your enemies behind wall
+ offline splitscreen multiplayer with bots
+ exo survival is a pretty fun hordes mode
- the game control which exosuit ability available for you, even on multiplayer there are several feature that is not available like the grappling hook
- no custom loadout
- the game is too linier, if only Advanced Warfare give us more freedom to use all of those advanced military gadgets whenever and wherever we want
The Graphics -PS3 version- (7/10)
+ smooth framerate at almost every level
+ nice lightning
+ extremely photorealistic cg cutscenes
- not much different from Modern Warfare 3, especially when you realize Sledgehammer reuse some animations from Modern Warfare 3 instead of new ones on Ghosts
The Sound (7/10)
+ good weapon sound effect but still not as satisfying as Battlefield series
+ pretty good voice acting, especially from Kevin Spacey
- forgetable scores
Verdict (7.7/10)
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is a solid military FPS but it doesn't bring anything new for the series. Of course the exosuit bring more mobility to you but the game restrict it on both single player campaign and multiplayer match. This could be forgiven if the campaign have great story and characters but Advanced Warfare deliver a forgetable story with so-so characters. Well, at least it's better than Call of Duty: Ghosts.
