I bought the hype, because that is all that was in the box.

Let me begin by saying that I am by no means a 'hardcore' follower of this franchise. That being said, I have played the past three installments quite objectively. This is by far the worst of the three.

The single player portions of FPS annoy and bore me simultaneously, so I will not be reviewing that section. Everything reviewed pertains to my experiences with multiplayer.

Technical issues: On numerous occassions I have found myself staring at a rotating circle watching "found 50 games" for a good 10 - 15 minutes. I have been put into a lobby with two people that never fills up. While waiting to be placed in a lobby, my screen would go black for a few seconds and put me back to the initial online screen. After this, I restarted the game to be prompted with "The save file (player name) has been corrupted. The most recent save has been restored." Technically, a sloppy game.

Game modes: Why!? Why did they remove most of the hardcore modes?! All that there is in terms of hardcore is TDM, FFA, and S&D. TDM is a total campfest in hardcore. S&D is alright, but impossible to get contracts or other challenges done in a timely manor. FFA is about the only one that is comparable to the play style of older COD games. Very upset that they removed my favorite game mode.

Graphics: Many texture issues, pop-ins, and graphical glitches. While putting away my rocket launcher, what appeared to be some sort of Egyptian writing filled my screen for a split second. When the map appeared after someone called in a spy plane, it put black and white bars (like bad VCR tape) all across the top of my tv, again for a split second. I'm still up in the air about player models / colors. There has been a few times where camo actually lets someone blend into the environment. This is neat, but sometimes frustrating.

Controls: Sloppy feel. The look sensitivity (at least for me) is garbage. '3' is too low and '4' is too fast. There needs to be a 3.5 setting for look speed. Overall, your player feels like a sloth on crack. He really gets up and moving, but it feels sluggish and dreary. Can't quite describe it, as 'feel' is something different for every player.

The additions to the game are somewhat welcomed. I like the COD points idea, but you should be able to sell back something you don't want for a 50% return on initial investment. Also, you shouldn't have to buy an ACOG for EVERY SINGLE gun that is able to have an ACOG affixed to it. If you buy something once, it should be universal across all of your weapons.

Wager matches are fun, but who the hell decided on the amount of CP you wager? Ten, one-thousand, or ten-thousand points are all that is allowed to be wagered. I don't want to risk 1,000 or 10,000 CP on a match, but risking only 10 doesn't even provide an incentive to play. What about a 100 point or 500 point wager?

In conclusion, the game is all hype. It's not a bad game, but it certainly doesn't deserve ANY of the acclaim it has received from so-called 'experts'. It is a flat out, pure, and undeniable let-down for anyone that expects a decent, sensible game from the COD franchise. Look elsewhere for your FPS fix, because while this game has it's shining moments, they are very few and very far between.
