Modern World At Warfare!
I admired Chris Watters review of Black Ops and wanted to believe every word he spoke. However, Treyarch's attempt to best Modern Warfare (on a fan loyalty level) was a short-come second place. The game has plenty to admire: new weapons, new moves, vibrant atmospheres, return of zombies and wage matches to top it off. On the other hand, much of the improvements are shadowed over by the daunting feeling of incompletion (On Treyarch's end) and lack of proper development. So without further adieu, my Call Of Duty: Black Ops review and breakdown.
Score: 7.0
Bias: In favor (Avid COD fan)
Biggest Perc: Environment appeal and weapon system
Biggest Fail: Multiplayer Lag and overall stiffness in game play.
Presentation: 8
-The game looks like its going to deliver an experience of epic proprortions. It sets up very well in the campaign and zombie modes. Multiplayer presentation however feels incomplete. Some may find the hud absolutely horrid.
Graphics: 8
-Some may find the "cartoon" look a set back, others may enjoy it. For me, I didn't really mind but I did have issues with how cheap the hud looked and some animations (flames, blood splats on-screen, sentry gun firing and other similar animations).
Sounds: 7
-The voice overs are great but the weapons don't sound real at all. I've also noticed sound drop out in the campaign and online in the multiplay. Some weapons don't accurately depict what their fire would sound like in real life.
Gameplay: 5
-The campaign is pretty easy so it won't really affect your gameplay here but the multiplayer gameplay feels like it was made just after World at War and right Before Modern Warefare 2. It feels absolutely crippling to go from MW2 into this game. It is absolutely one of the most frustrating aspects of the game.
Appeal Factor: 7
-The truth is...If you hated the vibe you got in MW2, odds are you WILL LOVE this game. If you were seeking an extreme fast-paced action multiplay like MW2, you WILL HATE this game. I don't have faith that this title will stay as popluar after the holidays as did MW2.
