After playing MW2, i had promised myself that I would never buy another Call of Duty game. Modern Warfare 2 angered me to that extent. But when Call of Duty Black Ops was released, every single person on my friends list was trying to convince me, the ultimate CoD skeptic and hater, to buy it. Well, after talking my most angry friend in an Xbox LIVE party or 2 hours while he was playing Black Ops multiplayer and not hearing him complain once, I went for it, and am never going back. This game change my idea of Call of Duty completely. Without going into much detail, the Singleplayer campaign is great, providing many thrills and memorable moments. This is also the most story driven Call of Duty game to date. The multiplayer is where its at though. The multiplayer has become the flagship attraction for CoD, and it shines brighter than ever here. Black Ops eliminates the cheap aspects that MW2 instituted. There is no more painkiller, no more martyrdom, no more knifing classes. This game is the absolute meaning of a balanced playing field. All of Black Ops' maps are intricate and fun in their own way, although there are a few that lag behind the rest as in every game. Over all, the Black Ops multiplayer will keep me occupied until the next Treyarch CoD (Sorry Infinity Ward). Another great addition to multiplayer is theater mode. It works much like theater in Halo but can only be used to view public multiplayer games. Last but not least is Zombies. After WaW, zombies became a huge attraction for the game. It kept players coming back to beat their high score and even caused some players to buy the game solely for zombies. Zombies is taken one step further in Black Ops. Mowing down hordes of the undead with my modern m4 Commando never gets old, and some of the new weapons are terrific to use. There are 2 maps for the classic zombies and one arcade type gametype. The 2 maps for regular zombies are fun in their own way. Kino Der Toten is the main map, and players play as the characters from WaW. There are lots of wide corridors and new automated machine gun emplacements to help the players hold off against overwhelming numbers. On the other hand, the map Five, in which you play as Kennedy, Castro, Nixon, and Secretary of Defense Mcnamara's only attraction is the people you play as. My only complaint against Zombies is that it has become far too difficult.
All in all, Black Ops is a huge step forward for CoD. It combines an action packed campaign, great new multiplayer, and engrossing new Zombies. The one thing that holds Black Ops back though, is that it graphics on consoles seem to be almost downgraded. I'm not very picky when it comes to graphics (I enjoyed MAG) but graphics do put icing on the cake. Despite this loos of score for Black Ops, this game is a must buy for anyone sick of MW2.
