Another year and yet again another Call of Duty game, you're either excited or you're not. I would call CoD the flagship of the FPS genre and it seems to have a interesting affect on gamers. People love the game to death and there is also this group of gamers who have become so disgusted with Call of Duty that they are turned off to the genre of first-person shooters completely. In the past, shooters have been mostly reserved for the PC such as Counter Strike, Quake, Doom, etc but since Halo, shooters have become increasing their dominance on the home consoles. Its cheaper to buy a console than build a computer good enough to be able to play the most recent games. The shooter genre is slowly shifting and becoming extremely popular because of the Halo series, shooters are now one of the most popular games developed. I cant think of what other shooter has had this kind of effect on the FPS genre. Just so people know that the developer is not the same as Modern Warfare 1 & 2, who was Infinity Ward, its by the same people who did World at War, Treyarch. This didnt really bother me, I enjoyed the first two Modern Warfares and thought Infinity Ward did a great job with the story and gameplay and wasnt that upset that Treyarch took over the franchise. The game is all Call of Duty when it comes to the single player campaign, if you dont know by now it takes place during the Cold War during the 60s. Out of the last four CoDs I would say this was just as good as the first Modern Warfare. The story is very well done and leaves you wondering after every mission. The game focuses on many different characters, all with their own personalities. The characters are realistic as they can get being this is a CoD game but they are a lot more believable than the last games and not as boring. You get to understand these characters by playing them through various missions and these missions take you all over the world. The game feels like your playing an interactive movie rather than a game, the storytelling I found was superb and had great twist and turns and along with a great soundtrack just puts the icing on the cake. A good example was when you where in Vietnam and they had your team flying in on a Huey helicopter with Creedence Clearwater Revival in the background just hit the spot. The story has that clandestine, red scare feel to it that is associated with this time period, I thought it was a good break from either World War II or the present day. The controls are normal CoD, if you played any in the past you will have no problem picking up the controller. Overall, I was impressed and I expect they will make a sequel till the run the Call of Duty well dry.
As i said this is Treyarch's best game they ever made !! I enjoyed every minute playing the Campaign mode, The Zombie mode and the Improved Multiplayer mode too !! i can defintly say that black ops brings the best COD ... Read Full Review
I have played my decent share of first person shooter games. The recent Call of Duty games have been a huge let down. The campaign in MW, MW2, and Black Ops were unique in that the campaign was both cinematic during game... Read Full Review
